About Maddy
Maddy grew up in Yorkshire, where she began her dance journey at a local school, supplementing her training with weekly scholar classes under Louise Browne in York. At 16, she received a special mention in the prestigious RAD Phyllis Bedells competition. She then continued her professional training at Northern Ballet School, completing a three-year course and achieving Advanced 2 in RAD Ballet, Imperial Classical Ballet, Modern, Tap, and National Dance.
In addition to her performance training, Maddy earned Associate qualifications—each with Distinction—in Imperial Classical Ballet, Modern, Tap, and National, as well as her RAD Teaching Certificate.
Maddy spent several years teaching at a dance school in Hereford before returning to Yorkshire to work as a freelance teacher, specialising in ballet across various schools and colleges.
She has since achieved her Licentiate and Fellowship in Imperial Classical Ballet and her Licentiate in Tap. Maddy is now an Examiner for the ISTD Imperial Ballet Faculty and has been an approved Tutor for the ISTD’s Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) since 2008, delivering all five units of the qualification.
In August 2023, Maddy was selected to attend The Royal Ballet School’s Affiliate Teacher Training Course. She is now among a select group of teachers worldwide accredited to deliver The Royal Ballet School’s Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme.
Currently based in York, Maddy teaches at a local dance school, leads the ISTD DDE course as Head Tutor at a professional arts conservatoire in Leeds, and coaches elite-level students. She also works with The Royal Ballet and Opera’s outreach and talent development programme, Chance to Dance, introducing young people to the art of ballet.
